Privacy
Your data, your rights.
This Privacy Policy explains what personal data we collect, why we collect it, how we store it, and the rights you have under the Nigeria Data Protection Regulation (NDPR) and the Nigeria Data Protection Act, 2023.
Last updated: 17 May 2026.
1. Who we are
Afro Placements is the data controller for the personal data you submit through this site. Our contact email for privacy matters is info@afroplacements.com.
2. What we collect
- Account data — your name, email, phone, and a password hash so you can sign in.
- Application data — date of birth, gender, state, city, address, marital status, religion (optional), education, employment history, skills, languages, passport details (if any), travel history, salary expectations, destination preferences and next-of-kin information.
- Documents — CV, photograph, passport bio page, certificates, police clearance, medical reports, reference letters and any other supporting files you upload.
- Communications — emails and messages you send us, and our replies.
- Technical data — IP address, user agent and basic device information for security and abuse prevention.
3. Why we collect it
- To process your application and decide whether to accept it.
- To run vetting checks (identity, background, references, medical fitness).
- To match you with vetted employers and present your profile to them.
- To arrange legal paperwork, visas and travel.
- To send transactional updates, status changes and required notices.
- To detect, prevent and investigate fraud, abuse and security incidents.
- To comply with our legal obligations under Nigerian recruitment and anti-trafficking law.
4. Lawful basis
We process your data on the lawful bases of (a) your explicit consent given when you create an account and submit your application; (b) performance of a contract you are entering into with us; and (c) compliance with our legal obligations.
5. Who we share it with
- Kislev Attorneys, our partner law firm in Nigeria — to prepare your legal paperwork after approval.
- Vetted employers — only after we have explicitly shortlisted you for a specific role, and only the data they need to evaluate that match.
- Background-check providers — police clearance, reference verifiers, medical assessors.
- Our service providers — hosting (DigitalOcean), object storage (DigitalOcean Spaces), email delivery (Resend) and similar processors bound by data-processing agreements.
- Authorities — when required by law (e.g. NAPTIP, Nigeria Police Force, courts).
6. International transfers
We may transfer your data outside Nigeria where it is necessary to complete a placement (e.g. sharing your profile with an employer in Turkey or the Gulf). Such transfers are protected by appropriate safeguards and only happen with your prior knowledge and consent through the placement process.
7. How long we keep it
We retain your application and document data for as long as your account is active, plus the period required to demonstrate compliance with Nigerian recruitment and labour law (typically up to seven years after the end of any placement). You can ask us to delete your account at any time; we will honour the request subject to legal retention requirements.
8. Your rights
Under the NDPR and the Nigeria Data Protection Act you have the right to (a) access the data we hold about you; (b) correct inaccurate data; (c) request deletion subject to our legal retention obligations; (d) restrict or object to processing in certain circumstances; (e) withdraw consent at any time; and (f) lodge a complaint with the Nigeria Data Protection Commission.
9. Security
Documents are stored in encrypted object storage and served only through short-lived signed URLs. Passwords are stored as bcrypt hashes; we never store plain-text passwords. All staff with access to applicant data are bound by confidentiality undertakings.
